We have an opportunity for experienced counsellors to train with us and join our Relationship Counselling Team. AVENUE will meet the training fees, provide placements and supervision.

Requirements – Certificate in Couple Counselling
This course has been developed specifically for counsellors who already have a Diploma Level Qualification in Counselling, Psychosexual Therapy or equivalent Diploma Level training in a relevant therapy such as Art or Family Therapy and wish to add a specialist Couple Counselling qualification to their portfolio. A minimum of 100 hours supervised practice is integral to the award of any of the above diplomas.
Course Content
The course has three strands which combine to provide a rich and varied learning experience; course work, clinical practice and supervision.
Course Work
The course runs over 6 modules comprising of four weekends and four individual days spaced over a year. The course uses an integrative approach to couple work exploring attachment, object relations and systems theory in relation to adult couple relationships. It explores issues that affect couples, such as: infidelity, communication, intimacy, separation and sexual difficulties.

- A COSCA-validated and Edinburgh Napier credit-rated course to qualify counsellors for work with individuals and couples.
- Integrative approach -Psychodynamic and Systemic traditions and incorporates theories of Adult Sexuality and Relationships.
Clinical Practice
Students on the course will be required to offer 100 hours counselling as part of the course requirement. 75 of those hours must be with the couple in the room. The other 25 hours can include individual clients as long as there is a relationship focus to the work. The clinical practice element must be completed within a year from the end of the course, e.g. for this cohort by the end of March 2021. The placements will be on a voluntary basis.
Cost
Course fees are subsidised; students will pay their own travel expenses.
